The Best Part of my Life
So you want to learn a little more about me, huh? For starters, I started this blog with the hope of someday discovering a good topic for a book I can enjoy writing. I credit Mr. Ryan Robinson with suggesting a blog as a segue to a book.
My full-time job is developing web applications for CGI Federal, Inc. (who I love working for, by the way). After work, I look forward to arriving home and being greeted by Ashley, my beautiful wife of 9 years, and Andrew, our wonderfully handsome 6 year old.
Before I worked for CGI, I spent 4 years building enterprise applications for Marine Corps Logistics Command as a Civil Servant. Prior to that, I spent 2 years building enterprise applications and test/simulations software at Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex. I spent 13 years in the Army Reserve and served as a Human Intelligence Collector, Company Commander of Drill Sergeants, and a Battalion Communications Officer.
My hobbies include reading science fiction and fantasy. In an attempt at full disclosure, I reluctantly add my guilty pleasure of YA novels (I just finished Mortal Engines). I also do my best to complete a professional book every couple of months (I’m currently enjoying Enterprise Integration Patterns by Hohpe and Woolf). A good portion of my free time is spent on software projects that range from the nostalgic (an Intel 8080 and Space Invaders emulator) to the contemporary (experiments with the Raspberry Pi and Hadoop). I also like projects that require an intimate knowledge of the hardware its protocols (OBD and CAN bus analyzer).
When I’m not being a geek, I enjoy simple wood-working, target-shooting with handguns, road cycling, and building Lego sets with my son.
